What this does
Enter the fee you already charge for the content. The calculator applies the common market conventions for paid usage, exclusivity and rush work, and shows every line of the working so you can argue with any of it.
Where the numbers come from
| Add-on | Convention | Scales with |
|---|---|---|
| Paid usage licence | +20–30% | Duration, channels, territory |
| Category exclusivity | +15–25% | Days locked |
| Rush delivery | +20–50% | Under 7 days |
| AI / ML training rights | no convention | Negotiated separately |
The reference point for the usage band is a 90-day paid-social licence in one country. Longer terms, more channels and wider territory scale it up; a 30-day single-channel licence scales it down. Perpetual is not treated as a licence at all — it is a buyout, and the tool says so rather than printing a number that would make it look routine.
These bands are the same defaults an Ampya rate card starts from. They are conventions in wide use, not a published index, and no tool can tell you what a specific brand will pay.
How to use the output
- Quote the range, not the midpoint. A range invites a conversation; a single number invites a counter.
- Send the itemised lines. "Usage +25%" reads as a made-up surcharge. "Paid social + website, 180 days, US, +34%" reads as a licence.
- Price the extension now. Put a renewal rate in the first email and a 90-day term stops being a cliff.
Read the background before you quote: what usage rights actually cover and how exclusivity is defined.
Questions creators ask
How much should I charge for usage rights?
The common convention is an uplift on your content fee rather than a flat number — about +20–30% for a standard 90-day paid-social licence in one country, scaling up with longer terms, more channels and wider territory. This calculator applies that band to a fee you enter.
Is this a rate card generator?
No. It does not suggest what your content is worth. It takes a fee you have already set and shows what the usual add-ons — paid usage, exclusivity, rush — conventionally cost on top of it, with the working shown.
Why does perpetual usage not get a percentage?
Because it is not a licence period, it is a sale of that asset. Pricing it as a percentage uplift would make an irreversible grant look like a routine add-on. If a brand needs perpetual rights, quote it as a buyout.
Why is there no number for AI training rights?
There is no settled market convention, and unlike advertising use the grant cannot be withdrawn once a model has been trained. Ampya's default on every rate card is that AI training is not permitted, negotiated separately if a brand asks.
Do I need an account to use this?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser, nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no signup.
